I got my top braces put on a few months ago, and they didn't hurt until a week after I got them on.
At every tightening appointment, however, they began to hurt instantly.

Thursday, I got my bottom braces put on and I could tell when they were putting the bands over the wires that they would also hurt instantly.
Most people that I've asked locally say that their braces only hurt when they tried to eat or bite down on anything. However, my pain is different than that. My pain is a constant sharp pain all throughout my whole bottom teeth. I have literally took 2 Hydrocodone pills with a strength of 500mg. If you don't know what those are, they are a high strentgh opioid or narcotic prescription pain pills that usually relieve any pain whatsoever. Along with those, I've took at least 9 tylenols, 4 ibuprofens, and 2 advils. I usually took 3 tylenols at a time and they did somewhat seem to help, whereas even the hydrocodone pills did nothing.

Has anyone else had any experiences like this? Any tips to subside the pain...because painkillers do not work at all.

Yup I had braces growing up and to me that kinda sounds normal well at least during the tightening. Does this pain last like forever? I know when I got mine tightened I really didn't eat that day but usually the next day it wasn't so bad and eventually it would go away.

I was on hydros when I had my wisdom teeth pulled and yea they don't do shit. I would bring it up with your orthodontist and talk to them. Every person is different when it comes to basically anything. If they are causing you that much pain then you should tell someone about that because while I remember it hurting like hell, I really don't remember it being THAT bad.

The pain usually lasts 3-4 days. I only got them Thursday (yesterday), so hopefully the pain will reside at least a little by tomorrow. I've been eating likes bananas, yogurt, and pudding. There is no additional pain when I eat, it's just a constant sharp pain.
When I got my top braces, they hurt no where near this bad. It's just that the bottom ones are absolutely horrible and none of the painkillers that I have took even phase them. You're right, next time I go to my orthodontist I will definitely be bringing this issue up. They always tell me that if I have any pain to take small painkillers like the tylenols, advil, etc...but I thought for sure that the hydro would ease the pain.

Well it's always good to know that someone else shared the same experience, haha.
Hopefully the pain will reside within a couple more days...it kinda sucks not being able to eat regular food lol.

It's supposed to hurt, it's bracing your teeth inwards toward each other. It hurts like a bitch, just going to take a few days to get used to.

It's not normal, but it isn't unusual. Most people with braces only need slight shifts but when I had mine they shifted my teeth so much harder than the other people. U r probably just in the same situation I was in

Back when I was younger and I had to get braces, personally I don't think I needed them because I wasn't experiencing issues with biting my cheeks and shit, but I had to get one of those rapid palatal expanders and that thing hurt like a fucking bitch. I swear to God it was the worst pain I've ever been in thus far. Every single day that thing had to be turned to apply continuous pressure.

In the end I finally got done with my braces and shit and never wore my retainers, I suppose my teeth have shifted back to where they were but eh whatever my teeth were never insanely crooked to begin with, all I had was a slight under bite that I didn't notice nor anyone else.

Lol you gonna have to deal with that pain every time you leave the dentist, I had to deal with it for 6 years and I really hated it but it's only a few days that the pain will last. My teeth is all straight now, so your teeth will be straight too Happy
