There isn't a single person that can deny the massive effect that computer games have on the world. More than 1.2 billion people play them, everyone's heard of them and you can't miss them all over the TV - it's fair to say they're unavoidable.

So how come it's taken so long for a university to finally start recognising the hard work, time and effort that some people put into gaming?

Okay, there are those computer guys that get a bad rep for some negative stereotypes, but amongst them there are a large amount of people who are so serious about gaming, they actually make money out of it. A lot of money.

Robert Morris University in Chicago is the first university in the USA to offer this kind of scholarship, putting to rest the minds of qualification hungry parents with game-obsessed teenagers everywhere.

The realm of gaming has evolved into a complex field, commanding accurate moves, plotting strategies, predicting what the enemy will do and reacting with lightning speed.

The university currently has about 3,000 students, and they believe that the skills you use during gaming are not entirely different to those used during sports, i.e. teamwork, fast reactions and the desire to win. The only thing that's missing is... Well, fresh air.

And of course this is just now being brought upon when I just started a new degree, :(

I might be switching now that this has been brought up, but i'm not sure. I might stick with my current one all the way through.

Nah I won't study gaming, I would rather do something better than sit down all day playing video games.

There's nothing wrong with this, the only fact is that you actually have to be GOOD to win money. When it comes down to getting a job in engineering or computer science or whatever, you don't really have to be GOOD to get a job (aka top 2%). If you have your degree and relevant experience, you'll land yourself a job (unless you have some random Liberal Arts Degree in which case god help your soul) tears

I wish I was good enough to do it for a living :fa:
