Marion brought some biscuits to a tea party. If everyone at the party takes 5 biscuits, there will be 10 remaining. If 4 people do not take any and everyone else takes 8, there will be none remaining. How many biscuits did Marion bring to the party?

A. 56
B. 70
C. 80
D. 95
E. 104

It took Adam 6 hours to canoe upstream from his campsite to the lake and back again. While paddling upstream, he averaged 2 miles per hour; while paddling back, he averaged 4 miles per hour. How many miles was it from his campsite to the lake?

A. 4
B. 8
C. 10
D. 12
E. 16

Like I said, these are really challenging math problems. I couldn't get a college tutor to even answer this lol. Hope my math teacher knows Gasp

1. Let b = the number of biscuits
Let n = the number of people at the party
ok so if everyone in the party takes 5 biscuits and there is 10 left. That means you can set up an algebraic equation : 5n+10
you do that same thing again: so if for people don't take anything (n-4) and everybody takes 8 that will equal 8(n-4)
Then you have this: 8(n-4) = 5n+10
8(n-4) = 5n+10
8n-32 = 5n+10
+32 +32
8n = 5n+42
-5n -5n
3n = 42
/3 /3
n= 14
Then thats the number of people so you substitute 14 in any of the equations so its: 5(14)+10
5(14)+10
70+10
80
So your correct answer is C Winky Winky

For answer i got Letter C what i did was Look at each number then correlate it to both questions for 80 14x5=70 meaning 10 remaining and 80/10=8 as there would be 4 people not taking any biscuits.

Also for Question number 2 i got answer B, 8 miles and 2 miles per hour would equal 4 hour leaving 2 hours left to get back and since it is the same distance it would be 8 miles But 4 miles per hour so it would take 2 hours, sorry if it don't makes no sense for not putting a exact equation but i do it in my head so yea also to lazy to add variables and what not lol.
