I successfully had my wisdom teeth extracted today. Just thought I'd share my experience.

They originally told me that I would be put completely under for the operation. Beforehand, they prescribed me 4 (1mg) pills of lorazepam. I took two the night before and two an hour before the operation. They didn't have ANY affect on me whatsovever.
I got to the office and waited for around 30 minutes. They took me back, set me in a chair, and gave me some type of gas that was supposed to relax me (it didn't have any affect on me either). I was fully concious and aware when they gave me my IV. I'm a regularly blood donor and I've had a few problems with my liver that needed me to draw blood every two weeks, so needles and blood are nothing at all to me. I couldn't even feel them put the IV into me.
They told me to lay all the way back and to open my mouth. I did so, and once I did, they injected my IV with two viles of what I'm assuming were hardcore painkillers since I had told them that the gas and lorazepam did nothing to me.
Even though I was fully concious and aware of what was going on, he started on the top teeth first, and by the time I felt him working on the bottom teeth I thought to myself: so it begins. So basically, I didn't even know he had done the top teeth by the time he was working on the bottom.
The bottom are a different story: I could see perfectly and fill fine as to what he was doing (it wasn't painful). I remember feeling him slice into my gums (no pain) and then pulling on my impacted teeth with some instrument. Since my teeth were impacted (all of them), I'm assuming that my lower right side tooth was deeper than the others, as when he went to extract it (third tooth) I could feel slight pain when he was pulling out so I "grunted" in a way. He told me "You're fine, that tooth is over now". He then dropped stitch material in my mouth and stitched it up. Contratry to the top, he did end up stiching both bottom teeth.
After he finished that bottom right tooth, he moved onto the bottom left and was finished with the operation within 2 or 3 minutes.
The whole operation seemed to take only 5-10 minutes, but I'm sure it was a little longer than that.
Now I'm home safe with a little bit of excess bleeding that I took care of with the gauze wrap that he supplied me. I came home, put a new set of gauze in, and went to bed for a couple of hours. I woke up, took more of the prescribed medication that he gave me, and here I am writing this story.

I know there are a lot of young fellows on this website, and if they're anything like me they are at least a little worried if not terrified about getting their wisdom teeth extracted. Moral of this story: It's not as bad as you think! The operation only took 5-20 minutes max once they got the drugs flowing through me through the IV.

Oh, and no, contrary to the popular belief that you will come home/wake up higher than hell, no I did not. I was completely aware, concious, and able to move as soon as she sat me up off of the chair. I was completely able to think properly.
Other than a bit of soreness now and numbness (yes, I'm still numb in the lower face, 11 hours later) I'm doing great.

All I know is when I had my wisdom teeth removed they put me under with general anesthesia. It was pretty cool, they put the IV in and what not, and I waited for the doctor/surgeon to come in. Once he walked in, he asked if I was ready. I told him that I was, then he hit something on the IV to start it. All I know is that it took a matter of seconds and I was out.

I feel like I might be addicted to general anesthesia, shit was amazing.

I wish I had some before and after pictures but I don't. According to my parents however, I looked like I was stoned. I don't remember much other than being wheeled out to the car and drifted off during the ride home. The percocets I got though, along with the promethazine, it was heaven. Needless to say I abused them when I had them. :p

Had my top left wisdom tooth removed about a month ago and dentist just gave me about 4-5 shots to numb my gum and mouth. Procedure took about an 30 minutes to an hour (a lot of patients that day I assume) and she sent me home with Penicillin and Amoxicillin for pain and antibiotic. Top mouth was numb for about 5-6 hours and bleeding for 6-8 hours ( Went through a lot of gauze pads). During that time some dead part of my gum came off where the tooth was but other then that the procedures was not bad only the numbness and bleeding was annoying.

i dont remember anything from getting my wisdom teeth taken out, all i remember is the dentist saying count from 10 to 0 and by like three or four i was out then waking up to my bro taking a piture of me lol

and haha, I'm actually doing fine as of right now. Not too much pain at all, other than when I stretch my mouth open too far.
