Suicide is a grave sin equivalent to murder (Exodus 20:13; 21:23), but it can be forgiven like any other sin. And Scripture says clearly that those redeemed by God have been forgiven for all their sins--past, present, and future (Colossians 2:13-14).
If he is a Christian or Jewish (I believe Colossians is old testament (?)), then it's my belief that the only irredeemable sin is denial of God, and all others can be forgiven if the person is willing to truly surrender themselves to God's will. Now, religion aside, it's better to have happy thoughts about the poor guy than to think about the negative consequences. :/ If a person is insane and unable to understand this world, and then kills himself, can he really be charged with murder, if he has no understanding of what murder is?
