(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Alrighty guys. So, funny name, but definitely a serious thread. I was just diagnosed yesterday with Diabetes Type 1. Basically Type 1 is auto immune, so it's just bad genes/luck/whatever with my body, and not so much related to my diet. But just figured I'd ask. Any of you guys have diabetes? If so, what type? And any tips for living with it? My blood sugar was at 550 yesterday, but I felt totally fine, even though apparently 550 is near fatal. Thankfully I'm significantly reduced today.

I don't have a fear of needles or anything but the idea of having to do that shit just doesn't seem fun.

For the time being I use a pen, which is a small disposable needle injection. Four times a day. Shits not fun. But what can ya do about it?

My cousin has had Type 1 since he was like 8 so hopefully I can shed some light. Eventually you should get an automatic pump because it truly does take a lot of the stress away from having diabetes. Anyways, he always keeps some sort of snack around at all times in case he starts to crash. One of the things he has said is as you have the disease longer the more you'll be able to recognize signs of issues from your own body. Most times he doesn't even have to check his pump or meter to know his blood sugar is too high/too low. He just feels it in his body. Another thing I learned too from having a diabetic roommate in college is binge drinking can be a serious problem, more so for diabetics. So if you're planning on drinking heavily make sure you have someone monitor you at all times, especially if you pass out at the end of the night. Otherwise good luck and feel free to message me with other questions, I have a lot of experience in helping with diabetics.

550? Jesus Christ. I personally don't have diabetes but my uncle has, although I don't remember what type. I think his is type 2 but I cant be sure. I know he needs to watch what he eats and take insulin before and sometimes after meals. I know it tends to be very manageable with diet and exercise. Just be willing to do it.
