In Flames Much?
Last night decided to watch X-Men Apocalypse.
Before we start the movie is not bad, still worth watching yes does have flaws. Biggest crime the movie has the writing is terrible the movie has some good ideas just never follows up on them.
Movie can be split up into 3 main acts. Act 1 sets up the movie explaining the origin of Apocalypse. Act 2 both sides within the conflict start grouping up. Act 3 final battle.
Apocalypse character is deeply menacing, early on you see hints of deeply powerful sociopath. Powerful mutant with cult leader like traits wanting to increase his power. Origin story fails to expand on the character apart from powerful mutant used rule world worshippers feared him trapped him. Never explained that ,Apocalypse is using alien technology. Worse still don't understand why he doing anything apart from being annoyed at being trapped. Shame could have covered his backstory more being rejected taken in by nomads before ruling the world. Would have helped explained why takes darwinism to the next level. Instead we get a classic comic book villain yay
Worse still......
Never feels like an Apocalypse is going to happen.
Actions feel distance not close to the world. Would be good to see him destroy homes of the X Men making the conflict personal. Instead 'OH look that city is gone and nobody cares'
Unsure what causes this problem mainly down to writing and pacing.
Four horsemen of Apocalypse
Reasons behind why each character ends up joining is iffy. Meant to have cult like leader praying on powerful mutants who have suffered extreme loss. Instead only one character who you can get behind which is magnano. Everybody else just saying okay that sounds cool. Comic books each horse man suffers so much they want the pain to end and Apocalypse offers the best deal. Would made much more sense to use new faces more. Most of the horsemen do nothing feel pointless.
Various characters which needed more development with some plot holes. Quicksilver with his limited time expands on the character.
Movie is not bad just suffers from some plot issues, timing problems with pacing being odd. Failing to expand on various characters when could done so. One of the weaker X Men movies would say just better compared to X Men last stand.
