Well it was bootcamp and he was sent there of December of 2008 so I guess so ahaha

Maybe it was his MOS training ontop of boot. For the Marines, its 12 weeks of boot camp and a few months of Infantry training, then prepare for deployment. Maybe he was just done with all that, and visiting before he gets shipped off

Or he is a SEAL(they train for 12 months)
