As i usually do, i wake up and read the news, it was heart-breaking to come across this piece of news.

A young boy on vacation with his family in disney land florida, was grabbed by an alligator and taking into a lagoon. The article said the father tried to wrestle the alligator and eventually the mother joined in. Just would like to say RIP to this young boy who only got to live for 2 years.

I thought disney land was for kids, so why have alligators there in the first place.

Yeah not the best way to attract locals and tourists... Looks like it was done at night.. either the parents were not aware of the alligator there...

It looks like they went in at night.. so signs would not be visible.. doesn't change the fact you should have checked for them.. but when have alligators and disneyland ever happen? not the hand in hand type Sal

With wild animals like alligators, surely the company should have implemented a watch guard, cctv, electric fencing.

You do realize we're talking about Florida. They're everywhere. They get into backyards, into garages, just about anywhere imaginable. I personally haven't encountered too many gators but I have seen a lot of them.

They said the kid was paddling on the beach... Odd for a gator to appear from salt water?

The media probably couldn't think of a better word and just dropped beach in as a filler. Orlando is smack in the middle of Florida between the Gulf and the Atlantic so there isn't any salt water near them. It would have made more sense if the media would have used shoreline instead of beach. But there was a time up in my neck of the woods where alligators were found in brackish water, and if I recall correctly in high salinity water after Hurricane Ivan.

Seven Seas Lagoon is man made lake near the front of the magic kingdom. Connected to bay lake Disney land owns most of the land around the area. Swimming is not allowed so this was caused by parents making a mistake. Very first time this has happened at this location and not common.

Fresh water is normal home for alligators.
