(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Any advice on literally everything on this subject? I'm a great gamer, funny and entertaining. Pretty tech savvy in some areas and quick learner. When it comes to all equipment like Microphone headset for both gaming and recording what should I get that not to pricey. When it comes to a laptop for video editing, what pc, software is recommended? If new to video editing should I learn how to do everything or pay someone else to make intros, video effects etc. Setting short term vs long term goals. Twitch VS YouTube? Which is best to get started. Thanks.

do what you think you would be good at, and start with that you have and as you get better at what you do upgrade your equipment and stuff, also try learn as much as you can on the subject of editing. but if you do it you have to be passionate about what you do, no point half assing it. As for software it depends what you like to use most, i would how ever recommend the basics such as photo shop, Sony Vegas, Cinema 4D and Adobe After Affects, and an recording device would probably be an Elgato, depending if you are a console gamer. and OBS for recording PC games. and Twitch would be a good way to connect with your viewers as they can play with you etc, or if u just wanna sit down and play. Youtube would be where you create the content you like and post and stuff, this would be where you put the most effort into. Long term goals would obviously to turn it into a job of some sort. short term would be like reach 1000 subs or 10000 subs or 100k channel views etc.

one of the best pieces of advice would be to go into it not thinking of turning it into a job but go into it taking it like a hobby, if you turn it into a job to early it will put too much stress on you and not make it fun, it will make it... well.. a job.

just be passionate about what you do and one day after you have put in the hard yards hopefully it all pays off Smile

and also make sure that the you are comfortable in the environment you record in. as in maybe in a different room, or your bedroom etc. also make sure that the place you record in is clean and tidy, as this will be aesthetically pleasing to work in, i dunno bout you but i find it hard to work in a messy environment, this is especially important if you are going to be doing face cams or Vlogs etc, because if you have a messy area etc and showing it in a video you will get roasted by the internet trolls.

As Toke said, if you're doing it for money it's going to be a failure from the get go.

Find something you enjoy spending time and advertise it to gain some viewers. Those viewers will spread the word to people they know, then onto the people they know, etc. which builds your fan base which is when this streaming/youtubing becomes a job.

Today Will Be Different
The money comments have already been stated, so to avoid beating a dead horse I'm not going to touch base on that. However, I will say this. Start small and do it as a hobby. When I was streaming BF4 I got decently popular fairly quick. It might have helped that I have a few friends who associate with a famous YouTuber who would constantly raid my stream. But when you're starting out you have to stay committed. Interact with your chat. Greet people, acknowledge their presence, hold a conversation with your viewers when you can. People continue to watch various streams because of who they are watching, not what they are playing. Having a personality is going to make it much easier. But don't be fake. People can sense when someone is being fake.

As for YouTube, you can still do it. But it's very hard to get anywhere with gaming these days. It's the epitome of beating a dead horse. The best advice I can give you is this; no one cares if you do not have an intro. Content is the same thing. Do it as a hobby. I indirectly know a guy who now has 100k subs on YouTube, hell I've been in a few of his videos as well. And I can tell you that he didn't upload to YouTube because he wanted to get famous. He did it so he can go back and watch videos as a sort of nostalgic trip for him. It also allowed him to learn a little bit of editing. Nothing fancy. But he'd just upload shit that would happen during games that was random, or hilarious etc. Eventually, people started watching his videos. Then he started gaining popularity. If he would have had the goal of getting popular he would have failed. When you do something as a hobby, or for yourself, the quality of whatever you are doing is going to be a lot better. When you do something for the wrong reasons the quality of your content will show it.

Yeah though google has made that process more of a pain to setup! Its true though. You can make money that way, Ive setup one of those accounts back in the day when youtube wasnt google.
