Post: When did the Simpsons jump the shark?

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I've been watching the Simpsons. Currently up to Season 16 and it's so obviously not as good as the early seasons.

It's generally recognised that Seasons 1-9 were the Golden Age, but the decline wasn't sudden. So when did the Simpsons lose its way?

I agree that the earlier seasons were better, however it also has to do with how our perspective changes when we age. It might be younger people watching the show find it funny even though when they watch an older show it seems dated and the reverse is true.

I'm glad Futurama ended when it did you can remember it more fondly than the show that was on for too long.

If you grew up with a series, and it's run for two decades, there's going to be formula and writer changes throughout. Why do you think Family Guy hasn't been good in the last few years? But if you've been watching the Simpsons from season 1 to 16, wouldn't you know when it started to decline?

To be fair season 23 and above have been MUCH better in terms of quality and general humour.

I actually have been enjoying the last few seasons. It's actually better. At least to me.

That's the thing, I've not been able to identify when it just wasn't... as good, if that makes sense. There's still things I laugh at, but I also find myself, thinking, 'really, this is what you've come up with?'

Incidentally, I've now watched all the way through to the end of Season 27, and it has picked up a little. Still not as good as the earlier seasons.
