I've always considered him more of a vigilante. Not that I'd admit that out loud at Comic-Con.

I say what determines him being a superhero like Superman, or being a vigilante like Punisher, is his ability to resist permanently taking out crime. If you read the recent Batman story-arc, Endgame, you can see Batman seriously considering the idea of just ending Joker once and for all, but if he does, what prevents him from killing off the rest of his rogue gallery. Killing off Joker is the literal breaking point for him. What makes him a superhero is his ability to lean on the side of justice moreso then the side of vengeance, especially when it comes to killing.

The old Batman was the best!
