I dunno if you'd ever be able to find this haha

Well I managed to get a hold of the socom 2 beta. The beta's seem to be better labeled than the retail releases. Shouldn't be that much of a suprise but even the pal versions of socom 1 have alot of shit that isn't labeled in the ntsc version.

Do you happen to know anyone who was in the beta?

From what I remember, the beta was closed for Socom 3 so not too many people had it. It probably was for 2 as well so idk how you found that but it's definitely the more popular game

Pretty sure it was someone on therealsocom's site that had a copy and gave an image to Harry in turn sent me a copy. As far as I know betas were given out to subscribers of the playstation underground or whatever the equivalent was for the ps2.

There's some people working on bringing servers back online. I know there is someone working on Socom 1, Myself, harry, xan and antics were working on socom 2 and GTLCPimp was working on SCA.

I know I am getting a little off topic but it gives some reasoning to why I am after rareish copies of the games.

My interest really started in all this when harry was able to get LAN mode working in the s2 beta and thought that socom 1 may also have a hidden LAN option. Turns out it doesn't but while looking for it I was able to fake my way to the online menus:

A few months after that sony shut down the remaining DNAS servers so authentications for any online title was no longer possible (socom 1 didn't need it anyways) however someone managed to capture the packets and created their own DNAS response server to any game that had packet captures could still be authenticated. We outside of that you can also just remove DNAS from the game which turns out for most games is stupid easy..

I was going through some version of socom 1 and ran into some really odd things:

The PAL Version had DNAS and it doesn't seem to care that it no longer exists since it eventually goes on through but it actually ends up at a universe selection like socom 2 had.

While the korean version has DNAS it actually cares that it gets a response back.

It's interesting to see what the differences are between games and whats going on in memory.

The Socom Scene was honestly the best of my life, really wish that never ended. I haven't heard much about anything since people using XLink to connect on S2

That's pretty much where it's at in terms of playing the game still. It's actually gaining a pretty decent sized community now. It's not uncommon to pop on on a Friday night and see 50 people on playing.
Harry tends to hang around gamehacking's site. You must login or register to view this content. < thread for the socom server information, at least what's been posted about it.

Thought I was all alone with my school girl love for Socom. I would perma-splooge to see a remake or advance in the franchise. Confrontation was a fucking trainwreck.

I Loved Confrontation. Frostfire Elimination was fun when nobody was camping.

Yeah I loved it too, but I'm talking about the functionality of the servers/online/hacking. It was a disaster.

Bumping because I am still looking for this. Oddly enough I've managed to collect all the other beta's / demos but this one. Hoping someone sees this and messages me
