Well, this is a neat topic. I currently work for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and have for almost 5 years. June 13th will be 5 years with the agency. I've seen a lot of crazy shit. I worked at a maximum security prison for 2 years, where we housed any and ALL inmates imaginable. Mostly life sentence inmates. After I transfered to another facility in San Antonio, it's a medium security unit, so most the inmates leave fairly early. IE: 1-15 years. A year or so after I transfered, an officer at the unit I came from was assaulted, and brutally murdered in the Ad-Seg department of the prison. I've been asaulted several times, verbally abused, among many other things. It's a very thankless job, that only some can do. By no means, can ANYONE sign up for the turmoil endured day and night. I work 4 days on, 4 days off, and have an interview with Best Buy Saturday for a part time gig since we added a newborn baby girl to the family. She'll be 9 weeks soon, and daycare is $700 a month. That's a house note...so I need a secons job to help cover that obviously. Anyways, thought I'd share. Remember to thank a Correctional Officer if you see one, because I swear on everything, they've probably seen and heard it all, and the onyl time we get reconigtion in this career is when something bad happens. Fuck all of the good we do, like clear counts all day, everyday, get assaulted, prevent riots, sustain inmate capacity, and keep the public 100% safe from the pedophile whom raped 3 kids, and murdered 6 women. (One inmate did so in the maximum secuirty unit I worked at.)
