To get online you have to complete the tutorial. This can be done by turning the game on and going into story mode. From story mode click start, go to Online tab, click Play GTA Online option, click the Invite Only Session option. This sometimes has to be done multiple times to get past the first race.

Alternative: Go to story mode, click start, go to Online tab, click Choose Character, make a new character. Also have to be done multiple times

The tutorial includes:

• The first race with Lamar
  
• The Drug meet
  
• Go buy some clothes
  
• Get your car GPS/Insured
  
• Go to Geralds meet spot
  

Once you do this the tutorial is over and you can join online/other players.

If you finish tutorial the game will save. once it's saved you will be able to continue.

When cloud servers can't be found click cancel and reset your game, if you click retry and it may delete your character for good.

Hey ya iv just tried this and all I get is timed out all the time

Yea sorry I got it to work by doing invite only mode instead of choose character. It seems like it depends on how many people go on through what method. Keep trying I'm only right now
