Nope, since patch 1.06 there are only some few glitches which still work (duplication, insuring, money by re-selling), but it is not possible to get your offline charakter into online mode. So you can`t import any car from offline to online mode.
And yes, all cars will be released as soon as you enter your garage. So if you want to keep your rare vehicles just do not enter your garage and call your mechanic to bring it to you... (For example: i have still my cargobob, although im level 70+), because when I entered my garage it was not in there (destroyed)...

Wish you would have been like 10 mins sooner on this!! I just got on and checked my garage... then I was pissed and shut it off... thanks for the info though m8!

you can still get any car online from single player to multiplayer you just cant store the cars which rockstar has banned from the garage online to stay or go into the garage.

Yes. But unfortunately bringing cars from single to multiplayer doesn`t make any sense without being able to store them in the garage
However it would be nice to know which of the rare cars are storable and which not....
