It's not a useless aircraft, it's pretty fun to fly around, the reason it doesn't have guns is probably because it would be a bit OP, possibly Jets or other AC130s being the only way to take one down.
Lockheed c-130 doesn't have guns, it needs to be an ac-130 to have guns.

Sorry, I meant the reason they added a C130 and not an AC130 lol, if they bring out AC130s they need to bring ways to take them down, not just other AC130s and/or Jets otherwise it would be too easy to grief in them.
(AI Jets could be cool, adding anti air missiles could also be cool)

i really think if you shot at the engines on jets then the engine should break be much easier to shot jets down :p or maybe a lock on rocket

That does happen lol, heavy sniper a jet a few times and it starts smoking.
AC130 should be maybe countered by Javelins, but give AC130 the ability to use flairs every so often to give the pilot a chance of dodging them.

I don't agree with no guns as a default option for free roam but they could set auto-aim/free aim, guns/no guns as options for people to set if they want to create their own free roam lobby/search for a lobby with their preferred choice of those settings.
