Well apparently things like this get people into pirating movies, at an increasing rate

LOS ANGELES, CA. (August 14, 2012) -– The world of Pandora has never looked better as over 33 million AVATAR Facebook fans were the first to learn of the upcoming release of the AVATAR Blu-ray 3D Collector's Edition, debuting globally beginning October 15, releasing in North America October 16, from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. A home entertainment experience like no other, for the first time ever, fans will be able to welcome James Cameron's global box office sensation into their homes in stunning 3D high-definition

I think it's retarded for a movie company to charge $30 for a blue-ray copy (WTFBBQ?)
But $30 is crossing the line where a person is going to pirate the damn movie just to watch it
Seriously, $30? I don't think that's gonna get many people with a typical low income to buy it.

Your quote of the article is pointless. People pirate because they can. If you know you can get it for free, why buy it? It has almost nothing to do with price, hell I've seen people post methods to Social Engineer a candy bar.

It's true that most people will pirate just because they can. Though a greater number do so because they do not wish to shell out good money on something they may or may not like. This does not include just movies, but games, music, books, etc. While there are many reasons people give to justify their actions it really boils down to cost. Even a dollar lost on something you hate, even a candy bar, is money you don't have.

i, wholeheartedly, agree. Cost is the ultimate factor. In this economy where the rich have it and the others don't...a plan to get some of what the rich have, w/o the cost is too tantalizing.

People will pirate since they can do that, yes. But there is also no strict law imposed yet against these pirates. Creation of utorrent is brilliant since you can't shut it down since there are seeders all over.

I guess with this bad economy, people want to spend less, hence, they pirate.

There was even a post in premium with a tut on how to SE a wheel chair  it's not that we're poor (although some pirates have to pirate because they cannot afford it) it's just that we can do it, because the tools to do so are too easy to find. and as always, sharing is caring :y: pirate's will never stop, you cannot stop the flow of free information. Even if it's illegal Enzo

I watch movies online because the stores I use to rent are closed now and I'm not paying 15-20$+ for a movie, lol.

I'm going to have to agree with Needa on this one, even though this thread is old, it's still like a dispute. It's the same reason people steal. Most people can afford to buy whatever they are stealing, but why would you when you could just get it for free?

I would say some people pirate because they don't have the money to buy the goods they want. I personally pirate because I don't like buying shit DVD quality anime when I can get bluray rips for free and well ahead of any localised release. Also It's far more convenient to have 50 films on an Ext. HD than carry 50 DVD's or Blurays around with you. Also most stuff I pirate is not available for purchase in my country so what option do I have other than to pirate I can pay to watch a stream but I rather not pay to watch shit 480p stream.
