(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Can anyone help me with creating a web server for hosting? I just need the software, hardware, and process of setting one up. Its for a midterm, I'm not actually doing it, so the more detailed of a tutorial you can provide, the better.

Download wampp if you are using windows or download LAMP if you are using linux. That's really it.

I mean you are just wanting a way of hosting a webpage and not a bunch of people right?

Well you won't be doing both. If you are trying to act as a hosting company you are going to be needing a software package that handles all that. As far as how to begin with doing that I really wouldn't know. The only thing I know anything about is being a reseller. It's kind of the same thing, you just don't own the hardware and you don't need to worry about the software end for the most part since the company you are acting as a reseller for takes care of that.

Now for just setting up a web server for yourself it's seriously as easy as downloading the wampp installer and clicking some buttons. It does pretty much everything for you. You will have to either have a static IP or use dyndns to help with that and open a port or 2.

Also there was no need in posting this thread like 3 times. Being former staff you should understand that.

Being Premium and joining in 2008 you should understand that this is backseat modding.

For hardware, you are going to need a computer that is going to run 24/7. Dell PowerEdge is an example of a dedicated computer. Then just install Windows Server OS or Linux Server OS.

Some brief information if your hungry for more hit me up

You could do those recommend but if you want something more complex simple, secure. I would recommend not hosting it in your house.
- Most clients want reliability and redundancy (If you host the server in your home chances are bad weather could effect your client base hosting in data center which is built to withstand certain types of weather with redundant power supply)
- Starters I'd recommend reseller hosting make sure it has cloudlinux more secure kernel plus this will enable your clients to change the php version per control panel addional people can't bypass the insolation on cloudlinux like regular apache servers.
- Do I need ddos or not is another question you should ask your self.
- Billing system (boxbilling is free and nice for starting hosting you can always move up to blesta, whmcs, clientexc)
- Reseller hosting price wise ~ If you buy something to cheap it's going to be crappy so you should be willing to spend alittle bit.

Why I recommend not to host it in your place
1. bad weather can effect your site and your clients
2. if do have house or aperment your electric bill would be higher then usal
3. You may know this but parts would be one thing you'd have to keep instock
4. If the power goes out what are you going to do ? what if its for more then a week how you going to inform your clients if your site is on the same server.
5. Denial serivce attack we all hate to admit that we could be victim this would effect your whole connection.
