BTC is a form of currency that is primarily used online.

Some sites will allow you to purchase via Bitcoin. It will have an option for you to purchase there.

You can convert it into USD by linking a Bank account and transferring it there. Right now, 1 BTC = $453.58 USD, but it changes just like stock does.

Once you link a bank account, you can use that to purchase BTC as well.

Right now, I honestly wouldn't waste the time getting into cryptocurrencies now. It's honestly a tad late, unless BTC has a temporary drop in price. But if you're still interested in getting into BTC, first and foremost you have to download a wallet. There's several out there. You can find some of the suggested wallets by BTC You must login or register to view this content.. You'll be hooked up with an address in which you can receive bitcoin. Of course there are multi-wallets that allow you to receive other cryptos like LTC, if LTC still exist. Of course it'd be recommended to open up an account on an exchange like BTC-e.

But do know that the crypto market is utterly insane and very volatile. You'll have the ability to make a lot of money, or the ability to lose a lot of money. It's that sporadic. I'd also avoid mining for BTC. The difficulty is insanely high that even if you have an ASIC miner you'd still need a lot to make it remotely profitable.

Moved to Internet Talk. Though BTC can be used outside the frame of internet, such as in restaurants, stores, etc., it is still largely used on the internet, and even moreso on the deep web.
