Of course there are multi-wallets that allow you to receive other cryptos like LTC, if LTC still exist. Of course it'd be recommended to open up an account on an exchange like BTC-e.
But do know that the crypto market is utterly insane and very volatile. You'll have the ability to make a lot of money, or the ability to lose a lot of money. It's that sporadic. I'd also avoid mining for BTC. The difficulty is insanely high that even if you have an ASIC miner you'd still need a lot to make it remotely profitable.
