Well for an iphone 3g.. I suggest using Whited00r Custom firmware.. it helps speed your device up big time.. heres a post i made about it alittle while ago..

Ur gonna wanna download this 1.. You must login or register to view this content. it is an unlocked version of 3.1.3 with some added features like wallpapers.. and it also comes pre-jailbreakbroken.. Smile

Update to 4.2.1 then use greenpois0n rc5 to jailbreak. ultrasn0w can also unlock it.

Yes, then use greenpois0n to jailbreak it, and I'm pretty sure ultrasn0w will unlock it, but let me check that :p
