Turn your brightness down, update to the latest version, charge your iPod overnight (a good charge could help) and if you think it may help, do a full restore.

If your jailbroken, it can affect device performance.

Updating might solve your problem, however you will loose your jailbreak and your only option on 5.1 will be a tethered jailbreak
