I have tried plugging it in and have asked several stores whether they could retrieve the files, but have not confirmed anything thus far. The files on the iPod are what concern me the most. These are pictures and videos from trips and this is the only device containing them. PLEASE HELP ME IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW TO GET MY FILES!

Well if it was turned on I know that on those older types of iPods, you can access files in Windows Explorer.
All you have to do is enable hidden files and programs and go to the folder in "My Computer". You should be able to see them, the names may be all random, but they should be there.

Only recommendation I would have, is make an appointment with the Genius Bar. Maybe they can do something for you. On a side note, i would always recommend backing up important docs and images to at least one separate location.
