Terms used when making things in artistic communities

PSD
File format saved in photoshop to preserve the layers, not able to host PSDs on any image uploading website

PNG
File format saved in photoshop gimp and the modern version of MS paint that preserves transparency and gives the highest quality save available.

XCF
File format saved in Gimp

GIF

File format saved in most programs that deal with art, can be used to save something as a

Tut
Tutorial, usualy these are provided to help a member of a gfx community to broaden their skill.

Illy Shape
A shape made in adobe illustrator, the files are usualy somewhat big but are very useful in many situation.

Vector
A type of work that is usualy done with color flattened images, straight lines, circles, shapes and artificial lighting. A true "vector" is an image created in a program that doesn't use pixels. Flash, Illustrator, and similar programs are vector programs. The term "vector" can apply to anything resembling such programs' works, however.

LRO

Learning rights only, term is used usualy for psds means you can only use it to learn, do not redistribute it.

PRO

Posting rights only, name says it all, can only post the image etc.

WRO

Wearing rights only, usualy is given as a gift they give you wearing rights which means they made it and have all the other rights but you can wear it.

FR
Full rights, this gives you all of the above rights, you can do anything with the image.

Stock
An image unlike a render, it comes with a complete image, meaning you have to show a little more gfx knowledge to manipulate it and turn it into something amazing

Render

Usually taken from an image, it is transparent around everything but the focal. Most common to use when new to gfx.

C4D
A render/stock most of the time that is used for effects/lighting , there are many types of c4ds. C4D refers to 3-dimensional renders created in the program Cinema 4D, a 3D rendering program similar to Maya and Blender.

Fractal
Somewhat like a c4d but images are less bulky and somewhat made up of alot of thin lines, technically, a fractal is an image created from a mathematical algorithm that never terminates, meaning you can zoom in an infinite amount of times and see the pattern repeated. A fractal in terms for graphic artists is a design created in programs like Apophysis.

Filter
Term used for the filters in photoshop and GIMP

Opac
Opacity, can be used intertwined with many things in PS and GIMP that have opacity options, the opacity is how much definition a layer has. 100% opacity is Opaque, and 0% opacity is Transparent.

C&C
Terms used for criticism, criticism is a must in graphics communities, people need to know how to improve their skills, but keep it neat and nice. (C&C stands for Comments and Criticism)

Team
Usualy a group of people who do artwork together and call themselves a team, there are some exceptions to the word team.

Name Tag
File format saved in photoshop to preserve the layers, not able to host PSDs on any image uploading website, PSDs can also be saved/opened in GIMP, but some data is lost.

Masterworks

also known as +MW they in mosts opinion are the leaders in providing resources to graphics communities around the net. They are one of those exceptions to the term team, they consider themselves a family.

If anyone has any more that they think i should add or something i should edit let me know.

Tutorial, usualy these are provided to help a member of a gfx community to broaden their talent. Just as a technical note, you can't broaden talent, only skill.

Render

Usually taken from an image, it is transparent around everything but the focal. Most common to use when new to gfx. Again I'm just being anal, but this isn't necessarily true. Most beginners will simply take a stock and add text.

Term used for the filters in photoshop and GIMP, thank you very much.

Opac
Opacity, can be used intertwined with many things in PS that have opacity options. The technical definition of "opacity" is how much definition a layer has. 100% opacity is Opaque, and 0% opacity is Transparent.
