I just need some quick answers, any would be appreciated Smile

1, is there any way that i can import my mpeg files from my capture card into adobe after effects?

2, if not then what would be the best way to do this without a loss in quality?

Thanks Smile

You should be able to import those file types into AE. As an alternative, you can use Sony Vegas to import and render as another file type.

Are you working with AE CS4 or CS5?

CS4, but i have read different things such as that after effects cannot reac certain mpeg codecs, but my mates after effects can read the files from the exact same capture card :S

So would importing to vegas be the best quality method? because i have tried it with a couple of formats such as .avi and .mov but the quality just isn't as good :(

Cheers for answering though Smile

that's odd. maybe try re-installing CS4 then. Maybe something went wrong. I usually capture with my HD PVR in a .TS file format. I take those into Vegas and trim my clips. Once I get my clips, I render as .wmv or .mov... Then I put that into AE to add any special effects. Might not be the best way, but that's how I do it. Smile

Hopefully that helps.

I'm not sure it's the capture card... maybe the way you're capturing it. What are you using? Dazzle or easy cap? How are you capturing the video? Windows movie maker or Pinnacle?

Try capturing with different settings... change them up a little bit and see if that's your issue. Obviously test capture a short clip to start. Smile
