Does this happen to everyone with a pvr or is it just something wrong with something of mine?

idk about that, i have a dazzle and i have no problems with getting on Live, So I can't see a PVR doing that.
I suggest if you don't find your answer here google for it. Maybe others are having the same problems.

There's no possible way the HD PVR, or any video recorder would effect your internet connection. It has to be something else causing the issue. Try power-cycling your modem and router.
