Not really. Hotkeys make both programs extremely efficient to use, and certain filters or tools are more streamlined on one program or another. You really can't say speed is a factor, because unless you're clicking on every tool and filter, either program is fast.

Also.. GIMP runs like shit on Mac OS X.
But GIMP runs really well on linux

GIMP was also made originally for Linux and PC, it took a long time for them to make a Mac version of it.

I've been using GIMP since 2.1 was released, so I've had plenty of experience with the good and bad of their history.

i guess thats where my problem lied.. (i was using gimp on os x) and i feel as though both are great programs but photoshop is cleaner and easier to use

Not quite, it doesn't have nearly as many effects. :/ Gimp is just easier to learn. IMO
