try file>open. if your trying to render it the make sure you check transparent under the options fod existinbew but i may wrong i havent used it for a while since i got photoshop cs3 extended for free
EDIT:btw if you just adding and image to an existing project then just go to file>open(select your picture) then copy and paste it
