This tag can be summed up in one word: potential.

The concept had the potential to be good, until you went apeshit with the effects.
The colors had the potential to be good, until you decided everything looks better in brown (playing a little too much CoD and Gears of War lately?).
The effects had the potential to be good, until you started slapping c4ds on like no one's business and used the IWarp/Liquefy tool (LOL).
The lighting had the potential to be good, until you decided the sun should be the dominant focal of the tag and made it brighter than Edward Cullen's skin in sunlight.
The depth had the potential to be good, until you blurred the right side, didn't blur the left, and left it alone.
The canvas had the potential to be good, until you added a border.

It's more of a compliment than I give most people. But seriously, this tag really had the potential to be something awesome.

Ummmmmmm dude.

I use GIMP.

Clipping masks are the easiest thing in the world, and no you don't do them in the same way (well you can, but I don't).

1. Make a layer of what you want to make clipping masks on (like splatter brushes)
2. Make a layer that you want to make the clipping masks from (like a New From Visible layer of your tag in progress)
3. Use the Alpha to Selection option (Layer>Transparency>Alpha to Selection)
4. Ctrl+I (to invert selection)
5. Edit>Cut (or whatever your hotkey is for that)

Do not use GIMP as an excuse, I can't stand people who do. Fair warning.

bro i wasn't i hate people who do it as well but what i meant is that the process of it is longer also there's features like adjustment layers or the whole ocean ripple thing that photoshop has and gimp doesn't so i have to figure out ways to do certain things i can easily do with the click of a button on photoshop

But you shouldn't always need to copy PS's effects to make your tags. There are plenty of things that GIMP has that are better than PS's equivalents too (like the Displace filter especially, a friend of mine who's a PS pro has GIMP in part for when he needs to use a Displace filter). And just because it takes an extra 10 seconds to do something in GIMP shouldn't matter. Unless you have to have every tag done in under an hour, you should be letting your art come naturally, extra steps or not.
