how does it screw it up exactly?? can't say much without knowing the problem.
although here is my advice, record in m2ts and then use the media converter to convert it to mp4. then load it in sony vegas

When I put any mp4 from the PVR, it shows only the top left corner of the video file. Ill show you in a screen cap.
I now record in the m2ts, and it shows up fine in vegas. I just want to be able to use some of the footage that I got from when I used mp4.

hmm that is very strange, looks like its been event panned cropped for no reason :/ you tried like zooming out using the pan crop settings??
what you could do is put the mp4 files onto a memory stick and put them on your ps3 or xbox and re-record them that way
