(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hey. I'm thinking about buying a HD PVR ... BUT there are some questions ...

1.) Do I need a gamer pc to record ? (2000€ PC ... etc )
2.) How much space do I need on my HDD ?
3.) How long are the cables which come with the HD PVR ?

Error… Cat invasion!
as long as your computer fits the recommended requirements youll be fine, tbh i used to run mine on an old only vaio with 4gb ram and only a 2 GHz core duo whilst running vista, and it ran perfect

1) No, you don't need it to record. To record I used my school laptop, although its still decent (only 2.8gb RAM with i5 2.67ghz processor, just an inbuilt graphics chip) If you want some decent speed in editing while still seeing your clips at a decent quality in the preview you might need a bit better of a computer, I use my desktop for that. Of course just follow whatever model instructions it has!

2) Just looking at one of the clips I recorded for a friend, a 15 minute clip was 984mb. This was recorded in 720p using the Hauppauge HD PVR.

3) The cables were a decent size, can't give you exact but probably 1-2m, maybe less, maybe more, never measured. It was DEFINETLY long enough to run from my PS3 to TV which is sitting a bit above it, and theres still many coils I left tied up. This was the hauppauge of course.

I guess it all depends on what HDPVR you buy!

I used my laptop which was incredibly slow when rendering. It has an alright graphics card though.
If you dont mind the wait of rendering then it doesnt matter really what PC you use (as long as it fits the recommendations)

Memory depends on how long and how many videos you plan on recording :y:

Thank you very much. The HD PVR has an inbuilt HDD right ? My Computer's HDD is 180 GB but I'll buy a bigger this year.
Is it easy to start the recording process ? For example if I'm playing SND on Favela then some random guy does a great 1080° claymorekill. How long would it take to start recording ?

Depends on what PVR it is I guess. As far as my knowledge goes I don't know of any with an inbuilt HDD. I know for sure that with the Hauppauge you NEED your laptop harddrive to record to. It doesn't take too long to start recording, if you have the program on your laptop open with the record button visible, it should only take less than 5 seconds for it to start recording.

1.) Do I need a gamer pc to record ? (2000€ PC ... etc )

**** no. A decent 2GB Ram computer with a dual core processor can run it just fine! The thing you need more CPU / Ram for is rendering the video.

2.) How much space do I need on my HDD ?

Really not much. A 10 minute recording is like 1.5 GB, but you can just render it in vegas / convert it to mp4 using the given converter and then delete the original, and you got yourself a 200MB video.

3.) How long are the cables which come with the HD PVR ?

Decent size. The component one is pretty damn long, the one that's not that long is the power supply one.

It takes about 3-4 seconds to start the recording, but that's on a dual core processor with 2 gb of ram. If you have, lets say, an i7 with 8 gb of ram recording is instant bruh. And no, there's no in-built HDD.

Videocard doesn't matter in video rendering /facepalm

You need to change over to component.
I thought it would be a pain when I got mine but I just play on Component all the time now. 720p isnt that much different to 1080p, you tend to not notice it after a little while. Theres a little bit of extra shadow, you notice it at the main menu, but thats about it.
Its a little annoying when your TV automatically goes onto HDMI sometimes and you have to change your settings back to component again, but I reckon if you just take out the HDMI it will play on component every time anyway...
