Post: Keys To Good Graphics Design

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Sup guys it's Hypno here bringing you a quick guide to design good graphics!

I'm typing this off my phone so cut me some slack aswell I can't really include images :P

Some topics I'm going to touch upon are

-Originality
-Flow
-Style
-Ways to improve

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Originality[/b]

So first things first is How Original your work is. When you're designing something you're going to want your work to be new and fresh, surprise the people that see your work. Don't be one of those guys that use the same brushes, fonts, flares, etc.. As everyone else because then it just looks repetitive and dull. Do your own thing and take risks because most of the time you WILL wow your audience. Don't just go on YouTube and download loads of graphics packs and templates and use those because those type of things look un professional and overused.

Flow[/b]

Second thing I'm going to discuss is flow. Flow in your artwork is very important because it's the first thing you viewers notice when they see your work. When you're making something take your time with it because it's not a race, take pride in your work and perfect it. Don't just slap on renders and colors that are ir******** or not needed because then it looks like you have poor craftmenship. If the theme of your work is space don't just randomly put fire or sparks somewhere because you ran out of ideas, take your time to think of something outside the box that would leave your viewers thinking "wow I would've never thought of that"

Style[/b]

Another important aspect of Graphics Design is style. Style is probably the most important at that. Style represents who you are and what themes you enjoy. Some styles are abstract, graffiti, colorful, sports, and Sci-Fi. Color wise you're going to want to use primary colors and maybe secondary, colors like brown and grey are big no's because they just cramp people's style and don't flow with anything. Abstract art is a very popular style that really wows your viewers because it's never the same and always leaves your viewers thinking. Graffiti can be good but often times there are people that don't like graffiti and you won't get good feedback. Hope you guys can use some of these styles in your own work.

Ways to Improve[/b]

Some of you that just started graphics might be wondering how to improve and by experience I can tell you that practice is essential. Try to do some free work for awhile until you get enough positive feedback and feel comfortable enough to charge. Also try a variety of things such as signatures, desktop backgrounds, YouTube backgrounds, userbars and avatars just to get a sense of what you're good at. I hope this guide helped you and just comment if you would like some more tips!

Here's a list of programs that helped me a lot through the months:

Cinema 4D( I recommend 11-13)
Photoshop CS5
After Effects CS4
Adobe Lightroom 3

+Rep would be appreciated

Sony Vegas 10

Videobot is right flow isn't needed in a lot of styles. A lot of styles require a good flow to look good, but again it isn't needed.

no do tuts then use techniques learnt for freework, also you don't ever need to charge/make a shop.
