I got inspired right here on NGU. I joined in January 2010, and after a month on the site i went inactive for 5 months. When I came back I noticed the Graphics section and decided to have a look. I was immediately blown away by the old +tA and +SFX work and wanted to get as good as them. So I started reading tutorials, watching youtube videos, downloaded photoshop cs5 and started downloading resources.

I did that for about half a year but didn't win any SOTW and lost my inspiration. A few months later I came back and found myself improving at a faster rate, I won about 4 SOTW and then again lost interest in GFX.. until another few months later I got back into it, again finding myself improving at a much faster rate, I noticed my pieces coming together nicer and my techniques were getting better. I don't listen to any music when on photoshop, I just literally lose myself in it. I can spend 3-4 hours a night on it and not even realise.
