I think you should ALWAYS use a black border. Unless it is a back sig you can use a white one, but stay away from colored.
I don't like the clipping mask on the right very much either.
The F in Favo s barely noticeable.
I like the background.
Was the render black and white, or did you do that? Just wondering.

EDIT: I also noticed that on first glance the sword looks kinda like a stray C4D.

i usually use white borders but black does look better on some. white borders seem more subtle to me.
