Step 1: Start with an empty canvas

Step 2: Choose ANY background color. I chose this one, but it doesn't matter.

Step 3: Make a new layer. Select the brush tool and choose any simple, solid brush. Choose two or three colors that match the background, and draw a color sandwich like shown below. I call the end colors TRANSITION colors. You will see why later.

Step 4: Select this smudge tool and use these specifications. Values can vary, so don't be too exact.

Step 5: Start smudging the layer with the brushed on colors.

Step 6: Smudge fully and uniformly to make it seem more elegant.

Step 7: Add some text, a render, and maybe a C4D and you will have a rockin' background shown in this example.
