(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); ive seen many threads on different websites giving tuts on rooting my xperia x10, i just want to know what it does and what are the benefits of it before i do it.

the main let's say folder.
The starting point to a system.

so it's like this.
root----->this thing------->that thing.

If you are the root user (by rooting your android device), you take control of this thing and that thing. Basically you can do whatever you want to your device especially running 3rd party un-signed codes.

ohhh i see, is it a good thing or a bad thing to do? + is it like jailbreaking?

Good thing if you are a dev. Bad thing is it voids your warranty (most of the time). Yes it is just like Jailbreaking.
