Tech site ITProPortal has claimed a source close to the company has confirmed that the long rumored phone will be launched in March of next year. This means that device will probably make an appearance at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February and at Cebit 2011 in Germany in the first week of March next year.

The report also suggest that Sony Ericsson wants to label the Z1 as "the Playstation Phone rather than the PSP phone." As rumored before, the device will run on the newly-announced Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, and is likely to have 512MB RAM, 8GB microSD card, an ARM processor and a 3.7-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen.

Now moving on to some fresh new details about the device. Engadget recently got hold of a new clip featuring the PlayStation phone running the Neocore benchmark by Qualcomm. And the results? The device managed 24.4 frames per second on average.

To quote Engadget, "we were just sent a new video of the device in action, only now it's running Qualcomm's Neocore benchmark app. As you can see, the device managed 24.4 frames per second on average. That doesn't seem like much -- our Nexus S, for example, just pulled off 55.6fps -- but bear in mind, this isn't the final software (or hardware probably), so there's no conclusions at all to draw from this benchmark right now."
