I already tried changing my console ID to his with PSIDPatch, my mac address and it still gave the error that the back-up was made on a different system. Am I doing something wrong or is it just not possible to install backups onto a different console?

That error happens with all backups, I get that error & I still get the modded patches. Just tell your friend to just click continue and let the backup start, it'll still work.

Ooooooh LORD! It's a sign that you shouldn't do it!! His Ps3 will explode just be careful, don't say I didn't warn ya.
