You need to restart your router to update the IP and port settings.
Only other way is to check you have the right ports open or DMZ the PS3 or turn on plug in and play. Only way around a full restart , restart the PS3 or disconnect from the network.

It a local network issue over matchmaking server issue.

It not activisions fault unless the matchmaking servers are down (They are not)
Your connection is setup wrong and won't connect to the matchmaking servers.

Cod4 is a mess. Good luck playing even after being able to connect.

Disconnect your PS3 and Router then reconnect your PS3.
Boot up CoD4 as usual and then reconnect your router and then Play Online (Sign in)

COD4 works perfectly fine...i find matches within 5 seconds of selecting a gametype, and every lobby i join usually has a 4bar connection coming from everyone. its one of the best CODs ever.

Yea just try restarting your ps3 and make shure you got good connection

yeah i used to get this issue all the time and some how it just randomly fixed itself i didnt touch a thing and it started to work.
