Pick a theme that is relevant to today. See the football season has began, maybe a Football theme? Maybe a theme by music genre like rock/pop etc.

It keeps it interesting to be honest ... but a idea i have for the themes, would be more work but why don't you pick two themes and do a poll so people voted on the theme they wanted. So artists could vote for the theme they want and the people that follow the gfx section and like to vote weekly can be more involved with it .... Just an idea but doubt it would help with people not liking the themes.

I think you're doing a good job bro with keeping it challenging and making people think about their entries.
Just a suggestion though to not make the themes so abstract.
By that I mean instead of an Evolution theme (too broad) make an Evolution of Music theme or Evolution of Art, etc.
So you will still be making challenging SOTWs but also a bit more to the point.
Like I said though I'm not trying to tell you how to run SOTW in the least, just a suggestion.

Ummm it was an Evolution theme. So Pokemon wouldn't fit I don't think.
