Sc2 is a great game for any fans of RTS games. Even for someone who's not (like me), it can still be really fun and addicting.

The basic idea of Starcraft is to destroy your opponent - but it's not that simple. Whereas in games like Call of Duty you control one soldier, and play from their perspective, in Starcraft you play as the entire army. You start from the ground up, 6 workers and a command center. You can build your army however you want - units range from regular Marines, to heavier-armed soldiers like Marauders and Ghosts, tanks, dune buggies equipped with flamethrowers, fighter jets, all the way up to the really big guns - Thors (giant walking mechs with guns for arms) and Battlecruisers (giant airships with powerful rapidfire turrets).

If you don't want to play as humans, that's fine too - there are two alien races you can play as instead. Protoss, a highly advanced alien race, offer a range of units from Zealots (melee units with laser blades on their arms) to Colossi (giant spider-legged robots that can shoot massive lasers farther than most other units can reach) and the Mothership (don't worry, that's Halo - except that this one automatically makes every friendly unit and building around it invisible to the enemy).

And then, there's the Zerg. You know the Flood, from Halo? Well, Zerg are just like that -only worse. They're called the "Swarm" for a reason; these monstrous, insect-like aliens are ruthless, swarming in huge numbers and devestating everything. Their most basic unit is the Zergling, a melee unit that can be upgraded to have ridiculous speed, and in large numbers they're all but unstoppable. Add in suiciding, exploding units in the Banelings, flying monsters in the Mutalisks, and the army is scary enough. But then add Infestors - units that can take control of an enemy's unit (even a Mothership), and the Ultralisk, a giant beast with pincers that can devastate groups of soldiers at a time and are deadly to buildings, and the Zerg have a reason to be feared.

The storyline of the game itself isn't great, but the real beauty of it shines in the multiplayer, which is all online. The Battle.net servers rank you so that you fight your matches against opponents who are at a similar level to you, and you fight your way to the top, through the ranks - Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond. Games are fast-paced and a mental rush like nothing else. There's a reason Starcraft 2 has been called a hardcore chess match - it's all about strategy, strength, and burying your opponent's army with your own.

The game has also become a huge professional event. It's the highlight PC game at MLG (Major League Gaming), and has been a part of other US tournament circuits (IEM and MSI tournaments). In the USA it's gaining popularity, but in other countries it's already a staple in any gaming tournament. The Korean-run GSL tournament is a year-round tournament with major prize money (the tournament going on right now pays out $89,000 USD to the winner).

So yeah, it's good.

Also, if anyone wants to hit me up:

Do a barrel roll!
SC2 is one of the few games that make me wish I had a PC to play it. Seem like they went towards a RPG in the SP campaign. Nice! :y:

The single-player is only like an RPG in the sense that, as you progress, you gain more and stronger unit types to play with, and upgrades for your structures. If anything, it's more like a game of Metroid, where despite your conquests from before the game's timeline, you start off with basically nothing at the beginning and have to work your way back to the terrifying power you once had.

But yeah, it's a great game. =)
