I just honestly can't see how people see WoW as more "nerdy" as Call of Duty. I mean seriously you kill people in both games, both follow some sort of story line or lore, both games have people that take it way too seriously, they both have obese players, the 12 year olds and the major trolls, many people play both for well over 4 hours a day and not to mention CoD has more of these people due to their sheer numbers. Now you tell me what you think is more nerdy; a guy who sits at his computer playing an internet game which looks exactly the same as someone on Facebook for hours on end, or someone playing a war game thinking they have pro skills and own because they can talk shit, swear and kill someone in a virtual world by "360ing" and clicking a button.
Whether it is or it isn't, WoW has just been stereotyped as a game which an unemployed 26 year old living with his parents in the basement plays. That's the general opinion about people that play RPG games I think - despite the fact that probably more mature people play games such as WoW and as you said yourself the majority of the immaturity stays with the 7 year olds playing CoD, only caring about 360s, no-scopes and quickscopes...
