In a recent interview with You must login or register to view this content. Zenimax Online studio head Matt Firor explained how not expanding to next generation console gaming is the only thing keeping the company from progressing successfully as a whole.

"There are a lot of rumors swirling around the next-gen coming back together with PCs," said Firor. "It seems like things are going back to a more standard platform. That being said, we haven't thought about it heavily right now. The worst thing you can do is worry about new platforms while in development.

"We want to do what we're doing right now and then look around for further opportunities. Certainly we're open to new opportunities, and we're going to be looking into new territories beyond North America and Europe."

He then explained how he's not quite sure if the questioned console version of TESO would be linked/connected with the PC version, which is what was done with Final Fantasy XI, as it solely depends on what kind of technology is used. However, he went on sharing his thoughts on how we could see more MMOs on consoles in the future.

Firor said, "It's the classic desk vs. couch argument, but it is blurring over time. The current-gen and previous-gen MMOs were all about using the keyboard and mouse, and sure, everyone used things like Ventrilo and other voice chat services, but that only works in a small group. A lot of that has been thanks to design problems that people haven't focused on a lot, such as typing and controlling at the same time.

"The 360, when announced was a pretty ridiculously cool device, but it is not so good anymore compared to PCs and even when it was announced PCs were still better than it. The technology was a little limiting for the size and scope of the world you could have. It mostly comes down to PCs being wide open. Online game development is all about doing whatever you want, pushing limitations, and it's just easier to do on an open platform. Someday, it may all change."

While so many things are still being questioned and considered, thought about, and cut down, Firor didn't want to comment on the future business modeling for the game, saying it would be revealed "later". Along with this choice made by Mr. Firor, two assumptions have been made, one being the fact that Guild Wars 2's massive release means The Elder Scrolls Online can't risk charging money, or the other side saying that with this title being developed around 2007, where more MMOs had subscription-based frames, it's more than possible that this is how The Elder Scrolls Online was being designed for, a monthly cost.

Even though the MMO-world is very populated in terms of both players and titles, Firor and Zenimax Online aren't worried. He claimed that Blizzard doesn't exactly "dominate" the fantasy title with World of Warcraft, saying "All fears have been erased after the success of Skyrim. It just shows that the IP, fantasy or not, is giant and very popular. It resonates with a lot of people in a lot of different parts of the world. It is perfect for an MMO, so I am not worried about that at all."

The Elder Scrolls Online is set to be released in Fall of 2013 for PC, and possibly other consoles, as well!

I thought this would be the appropriate place, if you feel it should be moved, report it. Smile

TESO (as of right now) is PC only, but I do see where you'd get confused with where I put it.
