Right, so in all of the Total War series, you have playable factions, unlockable factions and unplayable factions.
Using this fast and surprisingly easy method you can unlock and play pretty much every faction!

Make sure you back up your files before you do this, i will not be held responsible for anyone's game being messed up, it would be easy fixed but do this at your own risk!

Go to your main RTW folder ( Local Disk/ProgramFiles86-> from here you may have a disk RTW folder or if you downloaded if from Steam go to -> Steam/SteamApps/common and then go to the following folder:
Rome - Total War/data/world/maps/campaign/imperial_campaign

In this folder is the descr_strat.txt file
Change the top of the coding to look like this;

campaign imperial_campaign
playable
romans_julii
romans_brutii
romans_scipii
romans_senate
macedon
pontus
armenia
dacia
numidia
scythia
spain
thrace
slave
romans_senate
macedon
pontus
armenia
dacia
numidia
scythia
spain
thrace
slave
end
unlockable
end
nonplayable
end


Now you can play with any faction except SPQR and Slave. You could play as the Roman Senate but pressing certain buttons will crash the game, so it's better if you don't. And you can't play as the Slaves/Rebels cause it'll crash.
This method also works with Alexander and Barbarian Invasion, Medival Total War i have not tried but i imagine you could make it work, all you are doing is moving the factions under
" nonplayable
end " To the ; Playable
end

This game with very fun when I used to play it.

Its a brilliant game, i remember my first time watching my mate playing thinking " what the fuck is this?" then getting it myself and being hooked since haha! Can't wait for Rome: 2 to come out!
