(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So me and my friend were having a discusion about what the best processor for gaming is and i said it was the i5 2500k he then told me to wise up and said that the best processor out there was the i7 980x. Now personally i think the i5 is the better processor when it comes down to gaming but for overall proformance the i7 has it. Im looking for someone who knows what they are talking about to let me know what your opnion is on this.

OVER 9000!
When talking about processors you really, really want to refer to their actual model numbers, for example 'i5 2500k' not i5 or i7, there are a lot of CPU's that fall under the category of i7 and i5, and there are also multiple generations of them, the latest i5's are better than the old i7's(or at least most), for example.

The best all-round processors around these days are i5 2500(k)'s, they're about $100 less than the i7 2600k which a lot of people use despite it getting lower FPS in a lot of games compared to the 2500k.

i7 is slightly better than i5. I am using an i5 for about a year now, and its quite powerful. If you really want THE BEST then maybe the i7 is for you.

Truthfully 3 FPS doesn't suggest spending the extra $100. Unless you plan on doing encoding or something that requires the extra threads. Go with the 2500k. Right now I current own the 2600k but only because I do alot of stuff that requires the HT

The best processer for gaming = Intel i5 2500k! Yes It gives around 5 more fps than 2600k i7, and i7 costs 100$ more..
Go for i5 2500k!

Glasbey.

I use the i5-450M, I don't even think it is designed for gaming, but it runs games such as COD4, and WoW quite smoothly.
