Please take the time to check if these parts are compatible. I know the hdd is sata 3 and the mobo supports sata 2 but I though it was backwards comatible. When I plug the power (530w, trust me it's more than enough for all my parts, the hdd doesn't show up in the bios, or when trying to install windows 7 x64 via a cd drive with a IDE connector, nothing shows up. My old IDE hdd shows up in the bios and installation. Do I need to buy new sata cables? I'm using the two yellow ones that came with the mobo that say serial ata. Also, compared to my old hdd, I can phisically feel it spinning and heating up while the new on when it's plugged in doesn't get hot or spin that I can PHISICALLY feel. Should I buy a sata 3 cable to use with my hd? What about bios settings?

The backward compatible only works one way, example if you have sata 3 you can use sata 2, not reverse. If you wish to use that HD you need a motherboard that has sata 3.

**** my life. Thanks for the answer though. So just to be clear, the ONLY options are buying a sata 2 hdd and keep the mobo or buy a sata 3 mobo and keep the hdd? I can't just buy some kind of cable?

Cable won't work, but there is an option I forgot to mention, I apologize. You can get a pci card that gives the mobo sata 3 capability.

That is an example of what to look for.

Yup, the graphics works on the pci-e, and the sata works on pci so very easy. I would suggest, buying a graphics card with at least a gig of ram, if you plan on gaming with it. Of course keep in mind what you can afford, for example a Nvidia Gts 250 is what i use and it does very well, and should be able to purchase for under a $100.
