(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); First, and foremost, I will NOT, repeat NOT be gaming (Battlefield, Skyrim, Modern Warfare 3, WOW, etc.) on this PC at all, except for Minecraft. That I will play on this PC, other than that, gaming is NOT why I'm getting this PC. Nor is Porn, I'll keep my Vaio for that...maybe.

For gaming, that's what I have my Xbox for.

Now with that out of the way, what are thoughts on the specs of this PC.

I'll mostly be using it for:

  • General Use

    • Surfing the web (Facebook, NGU, Google...for now, etc.)
    • iTunes (Going legit with my music guys.)

  • Watching Youtube Videos

    • In 1080. I know the Monitor will not support 1080, I plan to get a(n) 23" LG 1080p Monitor.

  • Playing Minecraft.
Of course I'll have an HD backgrounds, and I'll make it look pretty.

I've checked with HP, via Walmart Answers. Their (HP) authorized, official, 'verified' account on Walmart answers, CONFIRMED that the Video card IS upgrade-able (I can provide screensnaps/links to proof, for better opinions), and so is the RAM up to 8GB, which intend to do both at a later date, along with a custom case...maybe.

So are the specs of this machine going to be good for what I want to do with it?

Right now, my Vaio is, all except for Minecraft. MC doesn't look good on my Vaio.

Was also wanting something with a bit more umpfh to it. My Vaio is nice, but I need to Factory Restore it, and more so want it for an on the go type of thing, and might even give it to my brother (Also a NGU member) [In active] so he can use it at College.

Here are the specs to the PC I'm contemplating:

Key Features and Benefits:

  • AMD Dual-Core E-3200 processor
    2.40GHz, 1MB L2 Cache
  • 4GB DDR3 SDRAM system memory
Gives you the power to handle most power hungry applications and tons of multimedia work (Upgrade-able to 8GB MAX)
  • 1TB SATA hard drive
Store 666,000 photos, 285,000 songs or 526 hours of HD video and more
  • SuperMulti DVD Burner
Watch movies, and read and write CDs and DVDs in multiple formats
  • 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet
Connect to a broadband modem or wired broadband router with wired Ethernet
  • 20" WLED monitor
AMD Radeon HD 6370 DX11 integrated graphics with up to 2041MB total available graphics memory

Windows 7 Home Premium On-board

Additional Features:

  • 6-in-1 memory card reader
  • 6 x USB 2.0 ports, 1 x headphone jack, 1 x microphone jack, 1 x RJ-45 Ethernet port, 1 x microphone/line-in/line-out, 1 x VGA port, 1 x DVI-out
  • 1 x MiniCard, 3 x PCI Express (x1) slots, 1 x PCI Express (x16) slot, 1 x external 5.25" bay, 1 x internal 3.5" bay

Thoughts?

The system I listed the specs for is about 448-499 USD.

Money IS AN OBJECT. I have to work for the things I want, and I need to save money.

Oh that. I aint worried about the HDD size. I have a 250 on my Vaio and with everything I have on it I still have 192, and that's WITH dual booting Linux.

Well thanks for the thoughts, but this thread isn't about the HDD. It's more so about everything else EXCEPT that.

Don't ever buy a pre-built desktop. Ever. Not alienware, not Dell, Not HP. Stay away from them, they're all overpriced pieces of shit.

Here is some quick specs of a custom built PC that will run rings around that one whilst staying under 500$
i3 2120 CPU
Sapphire 6670 GPU
8GB 1600Mhz RAM
ASRock P67 Motherboard
450W PSU (If you plan on upgrading your GPU in the future you may want to consider getting a better PSU)

If you can find a spare hard drive use it, as the cheapest hard drive on Newegg is 69$, and thats for a 160GB one.
You will not find them much cheaper than that. Hard Drive prices have rocketed sky high recently. You will not get a 1TB one for £30 as stated above.

Pirate W7 and hook the PC up to a spare TV until you can afford a 1080p monitor.

I repeat. Do not buy pre-built Brand Desktops.

Well see this sounds like this is spec'ed out for gaming which I'm not going to be doing, other than Minecraft.

I like how that looks, but I think the one I spec'ed out in my OP should do what I want it to do, because I'm not going to be gaming on it, right?

Edit: Maybe this instead of that Walmart one? - You must login or register to view this content.

That would probably be fine. For what you want, you won't be able to run Minecraft on max settings with high FPS but it will do the job.
My build was specced up for some light gaming as it had an outdated GPU that is capable of running games such as Minecraft, Sims, other GPU Friendly games.
The CPU is much much better, always go with Intel. And Motherboard provides lots of upgrade possibilities in the future.

If you buy that one, and then you decide you want to do some gaming on it, or just a general upgrade to make it faster then you will have to buy a new Motherboard, and PSU on top of whatever you want to upgrade.
