Post: My first ever gaming pc (Help appreciated :) )

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hello,

My name is Brian and this is also the very first thread I make on this forum.
I love gaming and am currently gaming on a ps3, but I decided to go for a pc, for multiple reasons:

- I prefer a keyboard more than a controller
- Most of my friends use a pc with steam or origin

I really need some help building my first gaming pc. I get the GPU for my birthday and I need some help which one I should choose. I am currently looking at this one: CLUB3D GeForce GTX 660 royalQueen 2GB.
Is this card any good and does someone has some experience with it?

and the whole pc itself is this setup:

I am sorry of the dutch language used, but the product names are all english.

So yeah, this is the PC I am getting for my birthday, it is the 22nd of June by the way Smile
I hope someone could help me out with this.
With greetings from the Netherlands,

Brian

To answer your question, I'd recommend the 7870 if your budget can afford it. If not, ensure you get a 660 with good cooling.

That aside, there are a few problems with your build.

- Your motherboard is incompatible with your CPU. You need a motherboard with the LGA 1155 socket to match your CPU.
- You haven't got an aftermarket CPU cooler. Without one you can't overclock due to temps.
- You need to double up on your memory. If you want 4GB, go 2x2GB. For 8GB, go 2x4GB. For 16GB, go 2x8GB, etc. For example, you want something like this: You must login or register to view this content.

Here's a mock build (UK prices as PCPP doesn't do the Netherlands at the moment - use this as a base build):

Note how the motherboard has onboard USB 3.0 and the case has front-panel USB 3.0 ports. The sockets are compatible. The motherboard has high quality parts so that you can actually overclock without issue. The memory is doubled up. The power supply is 80+ bronze efficient and semi-modular (in the long run this means improved air flow and lower temps).

After all that see if you can save up for an SSD. The speed increase is phenomenal.

Thank you very much for taking so much time for me Smile

I didn't knew it wasn't compatible so I'm very glad I posted a thread, thanks again Happy
I'm gonna show my dad tomorrow and see if it's an reasonable price for my pc.

Greetings from the Netherlands,

Brian Happy

EDIT: The 7870 and the GTX 660 are almost the same price, like only 1 euro different.
Thanks for the advice and I will go for the 7870 then Smile

idk how extreme you are, but if you could use a phase-change cooling system, you can probably run just about anything at high settings, if overclocked enough

Do a barrel roll!
I know you have some parts already. I see the setup. If you want to do the labor and put it together I recommend the other decisions below. If you'd like to buy a pre-built one. Check out these options below too. Also if you're really into building it on your own. Check out the AMD 8-core 8350 (black edition). Really REALLY fast processor. I like the Corsair Vengeance Gaming ram myself. If you want some more help building on your own let me know Smile

Otherwise here are some pre-built pc's and you can always upgrade later with parts Smile

Really if you want to get a nice Gaming rig you can go for a 500$ Desktop Pc and be able to run Skyrim.

Intel Route: (like buying the same for the name brand Not Happy or Sad)
You must login or register to view this content.

Honestly if you want to build a nice desktop and want to see compatible parts too go to pcpartpicker.com like you've done Smile

Have fun Smile
