Everyweekend I go to my dads so it would be nice to take my computer there and going to a friends place but what is it life span on a laptop? I'm thinking about getting a sager ( any other suggestions would be nice ). Or should I go with a desktop my friend can build me. Since desktops have more power and try and figure out a way to lug it to places.

It's your choice. You'll get significantly better value for money with a custom built desktop, bar the portability. If you must have portability than you're stuck with a laptop.

Desktop = cheaper for more power and longer life.
Laptop = more expensive for less, but portability and depending on gaming usage 3-5 good years.

from what I can tell a desktop would be better I could see if bring it to place I want some that is easy to upgrade also. If I can't get my friend to build it do you know any custom sites? Is cyber power good? My budget is 800-1000 preferably 800

Well I would suggest a Desktop over a laptop. It's just better in all ways. The only downfall as you know however, is that it's not portable...
